Overview

The Department of Biochemistry has 2 Demonstration rooms with a seating capacity of 100 each, and well equipped with audio – visual aids. There is one practical lab for UG student with 96 lab seats and one research lab for the PGs & faculty with latest instruments including Electrophoresis Apparatus, Chromatography Chambers & Spectrophotometer etc. to carry out research in the field of Biochemistry.
The department is also maintaining its own departmental library with more than 100 books and journals.
The UG teaching programme includes theory classes and demonstrations as well as practicals for MBBS, BDS, BPT& B.Sc. Nursing courses. The PG teaching similarly includes theory classes, seminars and journal club and postings in the clinical lab of MGH. The department also conducts the annual 8 weeks PG teaching programme for MD / MS residents of other specialties.
The department also has a Central Biochemistry lab equipped with latest instruments &analyzers including Selectra E (Merck), Immulite 1000 (Siemens) and ABL flex blood gas analyzer. The lab runs round the clock where more than 600 investigations are processed daily. The major investigations include routine blood chemistry, hormones, tumor markers, heart specific enzymes etc.
