Dr Achal Gulati is the President cum Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences & Technology (MGUMST), Jaipur - the first Self Financed Private Medical University in Rajasthan established on May 23, 2011.
Dr. Achal Gulati, Former Professor of Excellence, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and Addl. Director General Health Services, Government of India, trained at the prestigious PGIMER, Chandigarh in Otorhinolaryngology & Head & Neck Surgery. He had the privilege and distinction of establishing & heading a new medical college, the Dr. BSA Medical College, New Delhi as its founder Director Principal and later headed the Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research as its Director & then was the President of the National Medical Commission heading the Ethics & Medical Registration Board and the Medical Assessment & Rating Board.
A fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, the Indian Academy of Otolaryngology & Head & Neck Surgery and the International Medical Science Academy, he has trained at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and the UP Academy of Administration, Nainital in the field of, administration. He has all-round varied interests ranging from professional excellence in the field of Head and Neck Surgery and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery to the field of Medical Education. He is the recipient numerous orations and awards, including the “National Eminent Teacher of Excellence Award” by the Government of India, “Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan National Award” for Eminent Teacher, the “State Award for Contribution to the Field of Medicine”, “Times Research Media Excellence Award in Healthcare” etc. He has been invited to deliver a Keynote address on Deafness during the Assembly proceedings at the WHO, has been a member of the WHO 19th Expert Group for selection & use of Essential Drugs and has been a lead evaluator for WHO Android based apps for Hearing Loss Evaluation. He has been a visiting professor to the University of Padua, Italy, the Mayo Clinic, USA and the Kenya Ear Foundation.
A pioneer in the development of the OSCE model of evaluation at the Post Graduate examination level, he is a keen and professional quizmaster at National and International level, an avid traveler, a food and travel critique writer for magazines, he has about a 100 peer reviewed national and international academic publications, has contributed chapters in various text books, has developed numerous CD’s on clinical examination techniques and has also produced and directed a documentary film titled “To be or not to be” which is based on end of life issues. He conducts regular workshops on Communication Skills for Medical and Management Professionals
He is presently the member of Board of Governors of the International Rhinologic Society, the current President of the Indian Society of Rhinoplasty & the former President of the All India Rhinology Society and is an academic member of numerous professional academic bodies
