DM Oncopathology is a full time 3-years superspeciality residency program. Very few of the top Medical Colleges across the country including MGUMST offers this course. It encompasses superspeciality training in oncopathology in a multispecialty comprehensive Cancer Center under the guidance of experienced faculty.

Course Overview

In the era of precision oncology and personalized medicine the role of oncopathologist has become very vital. The superspeciality course in Oncopathology is designed to develop a well informed and trained oncopathologist who can diagnose and categorize and do synoptic reporting of various malignancies. Knowledge and interpretation of modern techniques like IHC, flow cytometry, RT-PCR, NGS and other advanced ancillary techniques are an integral part of their training.  Advances in diagnostic techniques, revision of classifications of tumors based on the molecular markers, newer therapeutic modalities and drugs in cancer treatment have emerged in last few years. Knowledge needs to be translated into action, for which intensive training  and rigorous teaching  is imparted to trainees to practice oncopathology.

Career Path

An Oncopathologist gets employment opportunities in hospitals with oncology services or dedicated Cancer Hospitals. Stand-alone reference labs also require services of oncopathologist. He or she may also work as faculty and teach Onco-Pathology in Medical Colleges. An Onco-pathologist can opt for a carrier in research and innovation.
