Dept. of Oral Pathology

Oral Pathology is the branch of dentistry which deals in identification of diseases affecting the head and neck region. Oral pathology investigates the causes and effects of these diseases. The Department provides diagnostic details related to diseases of the oral and maxillofacial pathology. Branch includes subjects like Oral Anatomy & Oral Histology as first year of BDS curriculum; Oral pathology teaching takes place in the second & third years of BDS.
The department is well equipped to conduct all routine diagnostic staining procedures as well as different special staining.
The department aims at the diagnosis of Oral Maxillofacial lesions, total patient care with ideal follow up of the cases, collaboration with the other departments for maximum patient benefits and collaboration with the other departments and other institutes for research.
The teaching module is divided into theoretical and practical classes. Theoretical aspect of teaching involves lectures seminars and group discussions. Practical approach involves demonstrations, slide viewing, slide discussions and clinical training. The practical involve identification of hard and soft tissue specimen, identification of histo-pathological and microbiological slides biopsy and exfoliative cytology techniques.
The department has maintained an excellent Oral Pathology museum of tooth specimen, dental casts, models, posters and post operative specimens.
