Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

"Dr U Singh is in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) for over 43 years. His main interests in the specialty are Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, Low Back Ache, Neck Pain, Knee Pain, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Technology in PMR. His innovations include development of Multiaxial Orthotic Hip Joint and Research on Prosthetics, the work has also earned patents. He was the editor of the Indian Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for over 17 years and is on the editorial panel of many national and international journals."

    • Commonwealth Medical Fellowship, awarded by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, London, U.K., 1988.
    • Scroll of Honour, conferred for outstanding contributions to the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, awarded by IAPMR, 1991.
    • Rashtra Pursh, Honour Certificate awarded by the Rajdhani Viklang Kalyan Samiti, New Delhi, April 1994.

    • IAPMR Gold Medal (Jointly) for paper entitled: "Socio-demographic factors and their effect on Psycho-social outcomes after Rehabilitation of Paraplegic patients", adjudged the best scientific paper read during the conference, Dr Gita Handa, Dr U Singh, Dr Sanjay Wadhwa, XXVI Annual conference of IAPMR, Bhubaneswar, January 9-11, 1998.
    • Won First Prize in Special Hindi Essay Competition (Category Non-Hindi Speaking) organized by AIIMS, New Delhi during Hindi Week, September 10-15, 2007.
    • Awarded “Freedom Trust Award” for “Social Responsibility in the Field of Rehabilitation,” by Freedom Trust, Chennai, December 2007.
    • Awarded second prize in the essay writing competition during the Vigilance Awareness Week 2007, AIIMS, November 13, 2007.
    • Awarded Life Time Achievement Award by Spinal Cord Society, September 26, 2015.
    • Awarded second prize for Hindi Dictation Competition for the year 2018-19 during the Hindi Fortnight, organized by AIIMS, New Delhi, September 14, 2019.
    • Best poster award during the 48th Annual National Conference of IAPMR, Calicut, Jan 17-19, 2020.
