Anatomy
Human anatomy is an integral component in the education of future occupational therapists.
Endocrinology

The labs are designed to teach human anatomy to students in the health professions and its focuses on the structural and functional relationships of the human body and the language that describes these relationships. Occupational therapy practitioners utilize their knowledge of human anatomy to understand underlying anatomical dysfunction and how it impacts occupational performance.

The practice of anatomical dissection and/or prosection on human cadavers is an essential component of human anatomy training programmes. The act of dissection reduces complexity and gives a better understanding of gross anatomy integrated into structure and function.

Physiology
The purpose of the course for the students is to acquire knowledge in physiology, which is basic to the profession of occupational therapy.

The focus is especially on the muscle-, skeleton- and nerve system with an emphasis on the interaction of movement and cognitive functions in daily activities.

Studying of physiology also helps in understanding the mechanisms of injury or disease, and the potential long-term effects of exposure to certain hazards which helps in proper understanding of the body functions and mechanism of the body.

Clinical

Neuro Rehabilitation Unit
  • Neurological rehabilitation under the care of an occupational therapist will consist of supporting and facilitating an individual to achieve optimum independence in day-to-day functioning.
  • For some this may involve focusing on improving reduced cognitive function such as planning or memory. Where for others, it may be more focused on removing physical barriers to promote independence through well designed housing assistive technology or equipments.
  • Occupational therapy department in Mahatma Gandhi Occupational therapy college deals with various types of neurological conditions like stroke, spinal card injury, central nervous system tumors, peripheral nerve injury, motor neuron disease, Parkinson’s disease, myasthenia gravis, GBS and other movement disorder.
  • Students are instructed on how to diagnose and develop treatment plans for these different diseases as well as given information about them. The students receive training in a variety of patient care modalities.

Ortho Rehabilitation Unit
  • Occupational therapy plays a pivotal role in the recovery and rehabilitation of patients with musculoskeletal injuries or conditions where proper movement is affected.
  • The orthopaedics occupational therapist will assist the patient allowing for them to adjust to their physical condition.
  • Therapist role is to get the patient to participate in daily tasks such as dressing, undressing, employment or educational and training as well as social and recreational activities.
  • The occupational therapy department in Mahatma Gandhi Occupational Therapy College deals with verity of orthopaedics problems like work related disorders (cumulative trauma disorders), fracture complications of upper limb, fracture complication of lower limb nerve injuries and different types of tendon transfers surgeries for correction of deformities.
  • These various conditions are explained to students are students are trained to assess and plan treatments for these conditions. The students are trained to provide different treatment approaches on the patient.

Hand Therapy Unit
  • Hand therapy is a specialty practice area of occupational therapy. It is typically concerned with treating orthopaedic based upper extremity conditions to optimized functional use of hand and arm.
  • Conditions seen by practitioner specialized in hand therapy include fractures of the hand or arm laceration or amputation, burns and surgical repair of tendon, name, acquired conditions such as tendonitis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and carpet tunnel syndrome etc.
  • Hand rehabilitation is an extremely dynamic intervention which takes into account all relevant problems posing a threat to successful return to work.
  • It is a strategic, systematic, rationale method of intervention that is dedicated for early recovery and functional restoration of problems related to hand, be it acquired or present by birth.
  • The students receive training in a variety of therapy modalities for the patient. Students are educated on these diverse illnesses and given the tools they need to diagnose them and develop treatment plans.

Sensory Integration Unit
  • Occupational Therapy practitioners work with children, youth and their families, caregiver and teachers to promote active participation in activities or occupation that are meaningful to them.
  • The primary occupation of infant toddlers and young children are playing, learning and interacting with caregivers and eventually their peers.
  • The occupational therapy department in Mahatma Gandhi Occupational Therapy College addresses the children with cerebral palsy, learning disability, autism spectrum disorder, children with muscular disease, Attention deficit hyperactive disorders and those children having sensory integration disorders.
  • The OT works to improve normal development and performance, and allows to regain function, helping them to carry out the activities that they need or want to do in order to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
  • The outcome includes independence in self-care, play, and school activities both physically, and psychologically.
  • Students receive instruction on how to identify these various disorders and create treatment programs for them. Different patient care modalities are taught to the students. It is taught how to use various evaluation tools and forms.

Paediatric Rehabilitation Unit
  • Practitioners in occupational therapy collaborate with kids, teens, and their families, caregivers, and teachers to encourage active engagement in meaningful activities or occupations.
  • Infants, toddlers, and young children spend much of their time playing, learning, and socializing with caretakers and eventually their peers. concentrates on treating kids with developmental issues like CP, spina bifida, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, etc.
  • It involves activities of daily living interventions that improve physical function, neuromuscular re-education, gait and balance training, and recommendations for adapted equipment.
  • The OT strives to improve normal development and performance. Students are taught how to recognize these different problems and develop treatment plans for them. The students are taught several patient care modalities.
  • In early intervention, occupational therapy practitioners promote the function and engagement of infants and toddlers and their families in everyday routines by addressing areas of occupation, including activities of daily living, rest and sleep, play, education, and social participation.

Hand Splinting unit
  • Hand and wrist splints are designed to protect and support painful, swollen or weak joints and their surrounding structures by making sure your hand and wrist are positioned correctly. restores hand function in patients with fractures, tendon transfers, crush injuries, CTD (Cumulative Trauma Disorders), work-related issues, neurological diseases including stroke and spinal cord injury, and degenerative conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
  • The goal is to develop hand independence in ADL, strength and endurance, and fine and gross motor function. With low temperature thermoplastic splinting materials and equipment, biofeedback, and TheraBand, our team is well-equipped with qualified experts.

Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit
  • Occupational therapy practitioners work collaterally with people in a manner that helps to foster hope, motivation, and improvement as well as system change.
  • Occupational Therapist is well educated in scientific condensing of neurophysiology, psychosocial development.
  • Activity and environmental analysis and group dynamics, occupational therapy practitioner work to empower each individual to fully participate and the successful and satisfied in his or her self-selected occupation.
  • The Mahatma Gandhi Occupational Therapy Department treats a range of mental health issues, including dementia, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit disorder, eating disorders, and sleep disorders.
  • We teach students how to recognize these medical conditions and establish effective treatment strategies. lab focuses on restoring and remediating functions of the brain, attention, orientation, memory, problem solving, abstract thinking, and calculation, through use of puzzles and fun-activities.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit
  • Focuses on recovering bodily functions necessary for one to perform their daily lives.
  • Here, evaluations are carried out with consideration for difficulties specific to each age group and medical condition. such as fatigue, difficulty breathing, poor endurance, abnormal blood pressure and other heart problems.
  • Following an individual examination, we offer customized workout regimens that may include biofeedback, coping mechanisms, home modifications, energy conservation techniques, fall prevention, fatigue management, stress management, etc.
