Overview

With the exponential rise in cancer cases and the expansion of clinical services at Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences, the institution established the state-of-the-art "Sri Ram Cancer and Super Specialty Centre" in 2016.

This modern, centrally air-conditioned facility spans ten stories and provides comprehensive cancer care services all under one roof. The SRCC marked a pivotal moment in the evolution of super-specialty care within the hospital, currently accommodating over 3,000 patients each month, including 400 new patients in the Medical Oncology Department alone.

Each consultant within our team specializes in their respective fields and is an expert in various chemotherapy protocols and targeted therapies, employing monoclonal antibodies and immune checkpoint inhibitors to treat advanced and metastatic tumors. At our research center, we prioritize delivering cutting-edge standard treatments for all types of cancer. Before any cancer-directed treatment begins, every patient undergoes a thorough assessment by a multidisciplinary tumor board, ensuring they receive the most effective treatment plan.

Additionally, we collaborate with various NGOs to provide counseling, psychological support, manage funds during cancer treatment, and ensure comprehensive care for cancer patients. One of the department's primary strengths is the seamless integration of all medical super-specialties—such as cardiology, neurology, nephrology, gastroenterology, hepatology, critical care, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and internal medicine—facilitating prompt management of treatment and disease-related complications.

Since 2020-21, the Department of Medical Oncology has been recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to train two DM students annually, covering various aspects of oncology. We conduct a range of academic activities, including multidisciplinary tumor boards, grand rounds, faculty lectures, journal clubs, soft skills training, bone marrow transplants, critical care tumor boards, molecular tumor boards, genetic clinics, and nursing training programs.

Aim & Objectives

The primary objective of the medical oncology department is to contribute to the prevention, early diagnosis, effective treatment, and enhanced quality of life for cancer patients while preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge and skills needed to address the challenges in oncology.
