Overview

Radiological services are the backbone of every hospital and healthcare institution.

A robust radiology department is the key to early diagnosis and providing successful treatment to patients. The radiology department at MGMCH is fully equipped with state-of-the-art imaging machines such as CR, DR, Ultrasound, CT, MR, Mammogram, BMD, Fluoroscopy & DSA. Additionally, the department has well-trained staff members.

The history of radiology dates back to Sir W.C. Roentgen's discovery of X-Rays in December 1895. Over time, the department has transitioned from traditional X-Rays to Digital Radiography, making it a filmless and paperless department. Ultrasonography, being a non-ionizing radiation modality, has gained widespread acceptance in Obstetrics, Gynecology, abdominal, and Musculoskeletal Radiology.

Moving ahead, CT has rapidly evolved from single slice scanners to multi-slice scanners, such as dual source CT scanner and Photon scanner. Additionally, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has invariably improved neurological, musculoskeletal, and body imaging with higher resolution and better visualisation.

Nuclear medicine has also advanced with the widespread use of PET scans and bone scans.

Furthermore, PET MRI is another upcoming development in the field of radio-diagnosis. The advancement of Interventional Radiology (IR) has achieved great success in various procedures such as tumour embolisation, treatment of varicose veins, vascular aneurysms, mechanical thrombectomy for evolving infarcts, and a lot more. Clinical radiology, a newly emerging branch, is set to become a major part of the medical field in the future. With the technology of today’s world, the onset of artificial intelligence (AI) will play a significant role in providing accurate diagnoses with minimal chances of errors as compared to human-made diagnoses.

Aim & Objectives
  • Provide world class radiological diagnostic facilities to the patients.
  • Teach & train the postgraduate students in field of radio-diagnosis.
  • Help in all round development of post graduate students and to make them learn to keep a patient-centric approach in diagnosis and also to keep them updated in ever changing field of radiology.
  • Promote research activities in the department and encourage students to take active part in publications and research.
  • Give hands on training in various modalities of radiology to the students.
