At Mahatma Gandhi hospital, the Gastroenterology department thrives on highly advanced technology and is fully equipped to provide accurate treatments for complex diseases. With a team of experienced faculty members and residents, the department offers a comprehensive range of services including OPD, IPD, ICU, and endoscopy facilities. As part of our commitment to providing quality education, we have a specialised teaching and training program for our residents, focusing on enhancing their clinical skills and expertise in performing endoscopic procedures.
The team operates distinct clinics for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and liver diseases. The clinics cater to patients at every stage of liver disease, from mild cases to end-stage conditions, as well as provide care for the patients who have undergone a liver transplant.
Additionally, there is a dedicated gut clinic specifically for patients with luminal diseases that provides complete diagnostic and therapeutic armamentarium for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The clinic is equipped with a comprehensive range of diagnostic and treatment options to effectively address these conditions.
Patients who have upper gastrointestinal (UGI) and lower gastrointestinal (LGI) bleeding are effectively treated with intensive medical care and continuous endoscopic monitoring. The faculty also efficiently manages other gastrointestinal emergencies, such as acute severe pancreatitis, cholangitis, acute liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, and hepato-renal syndrome, using a standard treatment protocol. The team also performs various endoscopic UGI, LGI procedures, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) on both routine and emergency cases.
Furthermore, we have experience in procedures such as pancreatic endotherapy, endoscopic cysto-gastrostomy, complex hilar stricture stenting, metallic stenting in the biliary tract, oesophagus, and antro-duodenal area. The team is also skilled in performing percutaneous and trans-jugular liver biopsies, Balloon-Occluded RetrogradeTransvenous Obliteration (BRTO), Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) procedures, and locoregional therapies for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) with the assistance of an interventional radiologist.
