The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College focuses on education and research related to a broad range of conditions, including the most severe of traumatic injuries and diseases, musculoskeletal injuries and conditions and any physical condition that limits a person’s ability to pursue functional independence and quality of life.

Pertaining to several medical conditions, a large population suffers from illness, injury or disorders that are present from birth. Numerous individuals experience limb loss or paralysis caused by ailments such as brain strokes, spinal cord injuries, or nerve damage. Additionally, many individuals suffer from joint conditions or arthritis, resulting in limited mobility.

Moreover, due to modern sedentary lifestyles, a significant number of people suffer from chronic neck, back, or limb pain due to possible sporting injuries. In order to provide optimal treatment to these patients, we are strongly committed and trained to effectively diagnose the causes and evaluate their impact on the overall well-being of individuals afflicted with these conditions.

There are facilities in place to effectively manage the pain through interventions. According to the World Health Organization's definition of health, we treat the person having conditions causing pain or disability holistically. We try to restore the person back to not only physical or bodily functions but also try to resolve the issues that may affect the persons’ mental, social and vocational well-being.

For young professional our goal is to maximize the health, function and well-being of the people and populations we serve by providing the highest quality rehabilitative medical care, conducting highly relevant, cutting-edge research, and training the next generation of clinicians and researchers. Residents are trained in the inpatient setting to take care of multiple types of rehabilitation including: spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, orthopaedic injuries, cancer, cerebral palsy, burn, paediatric rehab, and other disabling injuries. The residents are also trained in the outpatient setting to know how to take care of the chronic condition’s patients have following their inpatient stay.
