Department of Physiology

The department is primarily engaged in the teaching & training of undergraduate medical students pursuing MBBS course. The department also has MD in Physiology (P.G. degree course) offered to the undergraduate students. Ph.D. Physiology was introduced in 2016-17 Beside this, the department is also running M.Sc. (Med. Physiology), a three-year course is offered to the graduate students having a degree in various disciplines of life sciences.

Along with these courses, the department is also contributing to the teaching & training of the students of BDS, B.Sc. Nursing & Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and the other paramedical health sciences courses run by the university.

The department has an adequate number of highly qualified faculty, which strives to impress upon students the importance of learning various physiological processes involved in the maintenance of homeostasis of the body so as to understand the mechanism of disease

Young faculty members are enthusiastic regarding the research & are trying to make use of the available resources of the department & institution to pursue their goal. To carry out the above objectives the department is well-equipped in terms of lecture theatre, demonstration rooms.

Practical laboratories & all the necessary modern teaching aids. The extensive use of ICT facility for more effective teaching and learning process. The department aspires offering electives to develop entrepreneurship skills.

Academic and Training Programs

The Department offers a range of academic and training programs designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for effective health practice. These programs include undergraduate medical education, postgraduate training in, continuing medical education initiatives, and research opportunities for faculty and students alike.

Practical Learning Experiences

Students benefit from practical learning experiences through field visits, community-based projects, and hands-on training in . These experiences prepare students to address the health needs of diverse populations with cultural sensitivity and competence. There are two well equipped laboratories for the students to get an hands on training regarding the experiential learning through practical and simulation based learning.

Research

The department aspires to motivate faculty and students for research work by involving them into various research projects, seminars and conferences. The department provides work on the research laboratories in terms of instruments and workspace for the students. The curriculum of the programmes offered provide a wide scope of research in the following arenas:

  • Respiratory Physiology
  • Cardiovascular Physiology
